Strategic Action Programme for Healthy Communities: Report of Expert Hearing

An `expert hearing´ was held in Birmingham during February 2000 in order to consult key stakeholders, opinion formers and lay experts with experience of community development and /or public involvement.

Expert witnesses were invited to give short, informal presentations to a panel consisting of the research team and members of the cross-departmental steering group. The presentations and subsequent detailed discussions addressed the following questions:

  • what factors constrain the ability of the statutory sector to work in partnership with communities?
  • how can barriers to working in partnership with communities be overcome?
  • how does working in partnership with communities benefit the statutory sector?
